Ahoy Shipmates,

Pauline and I were fortunate to attend the official VE Day 80th Anniversary concert at Horse Guards Parade on Thursday 8th May. A spectacular and moving tribute to those who endured and triumphed through the Second World War.

It was a real pleasure to meet up there with Claire Farr-Nelson, daughter of our much missed club swinger Ginge, and her husband Matt, who serves as a Sergeant Major in the British Army (a proper scary chap, but a good sort!).

The evening was steeped in reflection, pride, and camaraderie. Members of the Royal Family were in attendance, including our very own Patron, HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, which added an extra sense of honour to the event.

The VE Day 80th Anniversary concert was attended by approximately 12,000 people, including members of the public, Second World War veterans, and distinguished guests.

We sang along to a mix of wartime favourites and more modern tunes, flags in hand and spirits high. But it was the veterans' stories and the memories shared by wartime evacuees that truly stole the show. Their quiet strength, courage, and the nation's heartfelt gratitude were evident throughout the evening.

It reminded us once again of the bonds that tie us across generations of service.

We left the event uplifted – proud of the past, thankful for those who served, and even more eager to see you all again soon in Plymouth.

Until then, take care of yourselves.

Yours Aye,

Wacker
