Celebrating 20 years as the Nation’s center for Remembrance

May 2021 marks twenty years since the National Memorial Arboretum was officially opened by HRH The Duchess of Kent on the 16th May 2001.

It’s been a fantastic and challenging journey and the team are celebrating in transforming what was a muddy field into the Arboretum that we, the Association, know and love, with almost 400 memorials nestled among the maturing trees with their stories waiting to be discovered by it’s many visitors.

On the 21 May 2015 the HMS Ardent Association Anchor Memorial dedication, in the presence of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester, took place at the NMA adding our memories to the national place of remembrance.

To celebrate 20 years the team at the NMA have captured the stories of some of the people involved on our journey in our online exhibition. The Arboretum at 20 and in a series of videos featuring words from our founder and some of the people to whom the Arboretum is so special.
