Falklands Liberation Day 2023

Shipmate Jon Major, seen here centre (with scarf) joined locals, fellow Falklands veterans, and the crew of HMS Medway to to celebrate Liberation Day. HMS Medway is currently in the islands covering for her older sister, HMS Forth, which is currently undergoing a refit in Gibraltar.

Jon told ARDLINES news he was “…so proud to represent and lay a wreath on behalf of the HMS Ardent Association on Liberation Day (14 June) in the city of Port Stanley.

After the parade it was a pleasure to speak to our nations finest. One in particular [Warfare Specialist Lauren McKinlay] completely threw me off tilt when she said she was in Hanson Division at HMS Raleigh and asked if I knew Shaun Hanson, talk about lost for words,

I gave her my HMS Ardent lapel badge and I’m sure she will wear it with pride. HMS Medway have a great ships company and are credit to the Royal Navy.”

Hanson Division was created in 2014 and honoured one of our own, Shaun Hanson, one of our fallen shipmates. His parents Pete and Rene Hanson attended the officially opening of the new Division supported by many of their family and members of the Association. Hanson Division continues to mark the fallen crew of ARDENT at Remembrance Sunday and on the 21 May, our anniversary of the sinking of the ship.
